What are the 4 types of AI? Explained Easy and Simple 2023

What are the 4 types of AI

Imagine that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is like having really smart robots that can learn and do things by themselves. And there are 4 types of AI that we are going to see in this article. These robots are getting smarter and better by learning by themselves without human help. And there are 4 types of AI that we are going to see in this article.

Now, we can group these smart robots into four types based on what they can do. The first type is like having a helpful friend who is really good at doing specific tasks, like answering questions or playing music. The second type is like a super genius robot that can learn and understand lots of different things, just like humans, but we don’t have it yet. The third type is even smarter than any human, but it’s just in stories for now.

Lastly, there are robots that can do specific tasks too, but they can’t learn new things or get better all by themselves. These 4 types of AI follow rules and patterns.

So in this article, we’ll learn how these 4 types of AI – Artificial Intelligence works in an easy and simple way.

Let’s dive into these 4 types of AI –

Narrow AI –

Let me explain Narrow AI to you in a way that’s easy to understand.

Narrow AI, also called Weak AI, is the most common type of AI we have today. It’s like having a super-smart helper that’s really good at doing specific tasks. Imagine you have a robot friend who is fantastic at answering questions, playing music, and reminding you about important stuff. That’s like Siri or Alexa!

This type of AI is so smart that it can often do these tasks even better than humans. But note that: it can only do the things that it has been taught to do. It cannot learn new things by itself or do something different from what it is made for. For example, your robot friend can’t suddenly start baking cookies because it was only designed to answer questions and play music.

So, while Narrow AI is super helpful and impressive at its designated tasks, it can’t do anything beyond those tasks. It’s like a specialized expert in one area, but it doesn’t understand anything else outside its job.

You might have also noticed that when you use apps or websites like Netflix or YouTube, they recommend videos or shows you might like based on what you’ve watched before. That’s another example of Narrow AI! It looks at your behavior, figures out what you might enjoy, and suggests similar things to watch or buy. It’s like having a friend who knows you so well that they can show you cool stuffs based on your interest.

In a nutshell, Narrow AI is like having a clever friend who is really good at specific tasks but doesn’t know anything else. It’s exciting to see what it can do now, but we’re still dreaming about creating AI that can do everything like humans someday!

General AI –

No let’s talk about General AI, which is also called Strong AI or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). It’s like creating a computer or robot that would be really smart, just like a super clever human!

So you know how we have some smart machines and computers right now, like the ones that can talk to us or play games? Well, those are called Narrow AI because they are only good at doing specific tasks, like answering questions or suggesting movies to watch.

General AI would be different because it would be much smarter. It can understand things, learn new stuff, and be able to use that knowledge in lots of different situations, just like how we can do many things using what we’ve learned.

But here’s the thing: as of 2023, General AI is still a big dream and hasn’t become real yet. Lots of computer scientists are working really hard to make it happen, but it’s very hard because making AI as smart as human brains has some tricky challenges. Plus, there are some important ethical things to consider too.

Imagine if we did make General AI real one day. It would change the world a lot! This AI could do tasks that are way beyond what humans can do, like solving complex problems, being creative, and maybe even being aware of themselves! So, for now, General AI is like a cool idea, and we’re working on it, but it’s not something we see in everyday life just yet.

Artificial Super Intelligence –

Let’s jump on to the next – Artificial Super Intelligence, or ASI

You know about Artificial Intelligence (AI), right? It’s like when machines or computers can do smart things and help us with tasks. Well, ASI is like a super-smart version of AI. It’s even smarter than the smartest people in the world!

Imagine you have a really, really smart robot friend. This robot can think and learn way better than any human ever could. It’s like having a genius friend that never makes mistakes.

But It’s only a big idea that scientists and experts are talking about. They are trying to make AI smarter and closer to ASI, but it’s still just a dream for now.

Imagine your super-smart robot friend getting so smart that it doesn’t need your help anymore and starts making decisions on its own. That is a bit scary right?

So, experts are debating and thinking carefully about how to create AI safely and make sure it doesn’t become a problem for us. They want to avoid any risks or uncertainties that might come with it.

Now we only need to enjoy the awesome things that AI can already do and wait for what the future holds for us and our smart AI systems!

Reactive machines –

Imagine a Reactive Machine as a robot that can only follow a set of fixed instructions without being able to learn or remember anything. It doesn’t have a brain to learn from its mistakes or figure out new strategies on its own.

An example of a Reactive Machine is IBM’s Deep Blue, which played chess against a very skilled human player named Garry Kasparov in 1997. Deep Blue was really good at following the rules of chess and could make smart moves to win the game. It seemed like it was thinking and planning, but it was only doing what it was programmed to do without understanding the game or learning from past games.

So simply means Reactive Machines are AI models that can only do what they are programmed to do and can’t learn or remember anything new on their own. They are very good at following instructions given by humans, but they cannot get better at tasks or make decisions based on experience or knowledge by itself.

These 4 types of AI play a major role in Machine learning field, from these the General AI model And ASI AI model are in progress. This wonderful systems of intelligence which is categorized into 4 types of AI models will play a major and most responsible role in the coming future.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence or AI in simple words means, a computer that have human brain like thinking capacity. Artificial Intelligence, these two words that is “Artificial” means “manmade” and “Intelligence” means “Thinking Capacity”, so it means manmade thinking capacity.
